Why PiP?
Dr. House served as the President of both the Oregon Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry, which he co-founded in 2003/04. Also, from 2009-2012, he was the oral health consultant for Head Start and Department of Human Resources Region X, covering Oregon, Idaho, Washington, and Alaska. He oversaw the Dental Home Initiative for the same region. Dr. House has served as a consultant to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry for the oral clinical exam since 2006 and on numerous councils for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. House owned and oversaw a pediatric and orthodontic group practice with five clinics throughout Oregon and Washington. There he began to develop a system for managing care that used a preventive medical model focused on community engagement, education, and innovative prevention techniques.
In 1999, he affiliated with Advantage Dental of Oregon as a primary care provider for their Medicaid Managed Care system. Convinced their system was highly effective and a place where he could deploy the preventive medical concepts from his practices, Dr. House became a member of their executive management team in 2000 and rose to Chairman/CEO in 2006. During his tenure, the company grew to include 300,000 lives, over 45 clinics, almost 300 dentist owners, and more than 1000 dentists throughout Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, making it the largest Dental Managed Care Organization in Oregon. Advantage’s success was in developing and using a unique Medicaid-provider model, disease prevention/intervention, innovative science, and technologies while increasing access to care through political advocacy, community collaboration, local private dentists, and support with company clinics in areas where additional support is needed.
Dr. House successfully oversaw a merger of the Advantage Dental community of companies with the practice group of DentaQuest in 2015, setting the stage for a national deployment of this innovative model.
Dr. McDonald graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). After dental school, he practiced general dentistry in the United States Navy for four years (1996-2000). He then returned to MUSC to complete his two-year residency training in pediatric dentistry. Upon fulfilling his three-year naval obligation in Okinawa, Japan as a pediatric specialist, Dr. McDonald decided to open his own pediatric dental office in Renton, Washington in September 2005. In 2013, Dr. McDonald opened a second “A Kids Place Dentistry for Children” practice in West Seattle, Washington.
Dr. McDonald is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and maintains a Fellowship status with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He retains current memberships in the ADA, WSDA, and the Seattle/King Country Dental Society. He has formerly served as President of the Seattle Pediatric Dental Study Club and the Washington State Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and on the executive Board of the Washington Oral Health Foundation. Dr. McDonald has also served as a delegate to the Washington State Dental Association and a member of the King County Access to Child and Baby Dentistry steering committee. His most recent accomplishments include a certification of completion of the Academy of Laser Dentistry and a nomination into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists, and recently into the American College of Dentists.
Dr. McDonald is very involved in his communities; he regularly presents lectures to parent groups, grade schools, and dentists. His peers have nominated him every year since 2009 as the Seattle Metropolitan area’s “Top Dentist.” Dr. McDonald and his wife have two teenaged sons. Besides watching them excel in many sporting activities, Dr. McDonald enjoys playing music, piano, guitar, and performing locally in area venues.
Dr. Mast has been around dentistry all of his life. His father practiced pediatric dentistry from 1974-2009 in Bellevue, WA, and his mother was a dental hygienist in Kirkland, WA, for about the same time. Whether Dr. Mast was hearing about patient care at the dental table in the early ‘80s, cleaning the office as a janitor in the evenings during high school, or sterilizing dental equipment while applying to dental school, he learned a thing or two about what it means to provide exceptional patient care beyond a slogan on a corporate window flyer slapped under a wiper blade. Patient care means following up by giving them your home phone number or meeting them on a Saturday to alleviate a concern even if you already know the issue at hand is relatively insignificant. Patient care means providing care at no cost because the family is under hard times and a child is in pain. The traditional model of dentistry has always allowed for this type of care, but times are changing.
Dr. Mast believes experience and “family practice” mean something to anyone willing to sacrifice what it takes to get into, pay for, and graduate from dental school and their specialty program.
He says, “By combining existing goodwill and market share while sharing best practices among well-respected and tenured wet-fingered dentists, the end product is far better than what Wall Street private equity can buy, roll up, leverage, and sell. I believe there is a huge market for young dentists who want mentorship with autonomy, ownership and guidance, camaraderie, and independent growth, and I believe young dentists would prefer to be a part of an organization that is owned and run by dentists. I also believe most retiring dentists would rather sell to a dentist with care in mind than a corporation owned by non-dentists who are looking for a profit in a recession-proof industry.”
Dr. Lee feels incredibly blessed to work with exceptional partners and a team of individuals dedicated to serving children and their dental needs. Her career has been dedicated to the principle that all treatment decisions are based on how she would treat her own kids and believes in the power of kindness, with honor and genuine affection for people. Taught to treat her patients with their best interest in mind under all circumstances, she knows that beautiful smile esthetics and good oral health will follow. Dr. Lee’s favorite part of being a dentist is establishing relationships with patients and parents; supporting young ones as they grow and mature through some of their dental challenges and seeing them smile when they overcome them.
Dr. Lee sees the landscape of dentistry changing. Corporations are taking over and stripping dentists of treatment choices to satisfy the interest of investors to make money. As an advocate for children, Dr. Lee finds herself unable to turn a blind eye. “The pediatric dentists who started PiP possess incredible integrity and character,” she says. “They care about the future of our profession and our ability to provide the best care possible to children.”
Away from the practice, Dr. Lee is married to her college sweetheart, Donald, and they are empty nesters – all three kids have flown. Their fourth child, Mochi, is a six-pound Maltese; watch for her around town in the doggie backpack! Dr. Lee enjoys downhill skiing, wake boarding, hiking, and pickle ball. She’s active in her local community church and volunteers for dental missions overseas.

Dr. Trujillo has a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry and religion from the University of Portland. He studied dentistry at Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health and became certified in public health at A.T. Still University. Dr. Trujillo also has a Master of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma and a graduate certificate in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
Dr. Trujillo decided to focus on orthodontics because it provides an incredible opportunity to indulge in many different interests, including precision and dexterity, math, physics, aesthetics, art, and biology. It requires critical thinking and problem solving, which keeps him motivated. Dr. Trujillo has been practicing for more than eight years at Orthodontics on the Plateau. He says he chose the community of Sammamish for a few reasons. “It wasn’t just the lush evergreens and crystalline waters that caught my eye. It was the open arms and warm smiles that adorned every person in town. I felt like I had truly found paradise and a place I could call home.”
Dr. Trujillo’s focus is to create meaningful connections with patients and the community through civic outreach, personally crafted treatment plans, and a comfortable office space that replicates the feel of the community. With patient experience and exceptional results defined as the top goal, he and his team always strive to provide the best care possible. His patients feel like family, and it’s their stories that consistently inspire him to be the best he can be. Dr. Trujillo’s health care philosophy focuses on three areas: quality, evidence-based practices, and integrity.
Dr. Trujillo has been married to his high school sweetheart, Angela, for more than 22 years. They have two daughters, Mia and Emma. In his spare time, he relishes trail hiking in the PNW, reading, meditation, going in the hot tub, and spending time with family. He also likes weightlifting, entrepreneurship, and setting and achieving life and business goals. Dr. Trujillo volunteers with Kiwanis International and other programs in the community.
